QM2 Drifters - Fabulous Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain

 From LGD 4/23/2024:

The Tuk Tuk jaunt was fabulous, much of which was not possible for us to photograph due to the bumpy, cobblestone, narrow streets.  The Tuk Tuks are designed to hold 4 passengers.  We were a Tuk Tuk of 3 people.  These were fully electric and could travel 200 miles from a single charge.  So with only a 90 minute tour we felt confident.  We sat with a single, female traveler also on the World Cruise who had also boarded in New York City.  She learned about "King George" and his submarine service.  And we talked about the Cunard and England celebrating "St. George's Day" today.

We stopped for some free walkabout time near the Cathedral (shown below).  Our Tuk Tuk companion chose to head for a bookstore to the derecha (right) and we headed to the izquierda (left) toward the praca de cathedral (Cathedral Square)  we were about 50 feet from where we left her, just ready to cross the wide boulevard, when we heard someone screaming "George! George! George! We couldn't see anything as we walked quickly-- semi-running, not wanting to trip on the uneven sidewalk, and there we found her fallen on the middle of four steps with her mouth bleeding.  George and a kind Spanish man managed to pick her up.  At that moment, one of the Tuk Tuk drivers that was parked across the street had run and helped us. The 3 of us walked her across the boulevard got her into the Tuk Tuk and another driver went for cold water.  We volunteered to head back to the ship, but she didn't want to keep us from our free time...so we went on.  Upon our return, there were only 2 tuk tuks- there had been a group of 3 prior to that.  She was in our Tuk Tuk with 3 other people and we were put into another one with 2 people. Turns out one of the tuk tuks had broken down and been picked up.  So back to the QM2 we went.  In traffic we lost sight of her and didn't see her again.  I did let our concierge know about the incident and asked if he could call her to see how she was--so St. George to the rescue again, just like in Dublin!  That's when he was named Saint George by Sister Michelle when we led the 150th Anniversary Pilgrimage of the Sisters of Mercy in Spring 2007!
